Internet service provider (ISP)

Internet service providers (ISPs) are selling basic internet access and some optional services. They make it possible for users to exchange e-mail and surf the web.

Like in a client-server model, the ISP provides the user@host account, which means that the ISP has manage the user’s addresses and applications-related protocols.

The services provided by ISPs fall into five broad categories: basic access, frontier access, networking, hosting and web page design.

The role of ISPs can vary from pure conduit for example, dial-up service and broadband, to pure publisher. ISPs may be content providers themselves, offering content to customers.

ISPs link people and business to the internet. Large providers that connect to national backbones have faster network connection and can deliver traffic through fewer router hops than local providers.
